“Processing” is a short essay film based on monologues I have written over the past ten years describing the journey in which I, like many Syrians, were confronted with questions of identity, belonging, trauma, home, and “otherness”. We accompany its main character “Sarah” on a day in the city of Berlin, where she roams around, aimlessly, questioning her position, feeling nostalgic, getting rejected, and sometimes lost. The film is fourteen minutes long.
Sound is stored and has a memory of its own, it’s called Mnemonic. The auditory of war became the habitual routine of everyday life for people living in Syria. “Mnemonic” is an experimental documentary which tries to explore the relationship between sound and its memory.
